Prime Minister visits construction work of the new Évora Line. (published by Infrastructure of Portugal)
The Prime Minister, António Costa, accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructure, João Galamba, and the Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Frederico Francisco, visited the construction works of the railway section between Freixo and Alandroal, of the new Évora Line.
The contract in progress is developed under the modernization and expansion program of the National Railway Network, Ferrovia2020, co-financed by the European Union, and aims to create the Southern International Corridor that will directly connect Sines to the border with Spain in Elvas – Caia.
This line will benefit from:
The competitiveness of rail transport by reducing journey times and transport costs
Increasing capacity to more than double that of current
The improvement of rail links between southern Portugal and Europe
The reinforcement of safety conditions through the elimination of level crossings and the installation of electronic signage
